The orgy of state sponsored violence against journalists ratchets up as one journalist has been killed in retribution for pictures he took of opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai's battered head. Today's Independent (U.K.) newspaper has that story, which you can read it here.
That story also describes the arrest and barbaric beating of Gift Phiri, a journalist for the Zimbabwean.
ZOOT spoke with lawyers who have been assiting Mr Phiri yesterday. They said that it was in fact the commanding office of the Law and Order section of the ZRP (Zimbabwe Republic Police), an Officer Tavaziva, who was directly responsible for the beating.
A warning to Mr. Tavaziva and Officers Mavunda and Muchada, also of the Law and Order Section: You are being watched and you will be held accountable for the crimes against humanity that you are committing.
The same goes for the vicious and sadistic Mr. Saviour Kasukuwere. This poor excuse for a human being is the Deputy Minister for Youth and a Member of Parliament from Mt. Darwin AND Zanu PF Politburo member. He is also widely believed to be one of the principal strategists for the recent round of abductions, murders and torture of pro-democracy activists from civil society and the MDC.
Saviour Kasukuwere, there will be no saviour that will be able to shield you from justice when the rule of law returns to Zimbabwe. Your crimes are being documented and you will be held accountable.
"The Zimbabwean" newspaper has been publishing a "Roll of Shame" with names of other identified CIO,police and other security officers responsible for the torture, abductions and violence.
